Soundhouse™ began at the Victorian Arts Centre (now the Arts Centre) in 1986 as the brainchild of The Brash Foundation (now Soundhouse™ Music Alliance).

Geoff Brash AM and Martin Carlson O.A.M. had a vision for the arts and developing technologies, and the possibilities that might be provided for young people. Significant developments in Soundhouse™ came through successful ventures with Department of Education schools as Soundhouse™ locations grew rapidly through the 90s.

Soundhouse™ Association was launched in 1994 and now boasts membership from schools and institutions throughout Australia and the world.
